While many believe it is an old adage, the saying “diamonds are a girl’s bestfriend” is actually introduced to the culture mainstream by singer Carol Channing for the Broadway presentation Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. The same song was performed by no less than Marilyn Monroe in a move of the same title. And from such performance began women’s fascination for anything that has diamonds – diamond earrings, diamond studs, diamond dangles, and the works.
Having said that, diamonds do indeed fascinate women. For one, women feel diamonds make them beautiful and all sparkly. For women, diamonds are a thing of beauty. A pair of diamond earrings to top their outfit would really send them gaga. Diamonds equates to beauty, simple as that. It may be hard to explain so leave it at that.
Another thing about diamonds is that women see them as a sign of seriousness, especially with romantic relationships. Whenever a guy gives a woman a piece of a diamond jewelry, it means that the guy is really serious in creating a strong bond. Diamond jewelries are hard to come by and if a man is spending his hard-earned dollars on them, then the woman must be something to him. And that explains why an engagement ring or a wedding ring means nothing if it does not have a diamond in it.
Diamond jewelries also become tradition for women – the passing of jewelries such as diamonds as part of the family heirloom, from mother to daughter; from an older sister to a little sister; from a grandmother to her granddaughter. While there is no exact record as to when this tradition started, it is very much alive today. Jewelries, especially those with diamonds, are viewed as family memorabilia that need to survive the test of time and should be handed from generations to generations. Such tradition only reinforces the belief that diamonds indeed are forever.
Of course, there will be times in a woman’s life where things are rougher than rough. A diamond jewelry simply becomes a way to weather the storm and its being becomes the reason why there is still food on the table.
Whether or not that diamonds are indeed a girl’s best friend, women do value diamonds and they hold such stones in high regard. Whether it is part of a romantic story, a family tradition, or a need to indulge one’s self with life’s capriciousness, diamonds seem to be an integrated part of woman. And such bond is meant to last a lifetime.
